A beginner’s guide to shoes with laces.

Firstly, I would like to make it clear that in no way would it be okay for professionals or even amateurs to read this article with the meagre objective of looking down on the beginner. Secondly, all other opinions, interpretations and alternative methods are yours to explore without constraint; if and only if following the correct process (the one I shall get to) is of little or no importance to you and you would probably be equally happy wearing those plastic bags you keep saving after every trip to the grocery store because you never know when you might need them on your feet. Lastly, the most important thing needed before you can put shoes on is the task you are about to do after putting them on, your mission which could range from general merriment to pre-planned, forced merriment like a lunch with your coworkers.

The correct process to put on shoes with laces is one of a few ingredients. You will have to gather the following things: left sock, right sock, left shoe, right shoe (Yes, socks too come in pairs of lefty and righty depending on the foot assigned to them) and most importantly your reason for putting on laced shoes. It is fair to assume that the goal you want to achieve after putting shoes on requires you to go outdoors. I can say with complete confidence that your labor will become much easier after completing this flawless process of securing protection and style for your feet. After we have all of required components mentioned above, we can finally move on to the next step. The next step is to systematically put the gathered ingredients on our feet step by step. First goes the left sock on the left foot followed by the right sock on the right foot and then we have the left shoe followed by the right shoe. The LSRS (left sock, right sock, left shoe right shoe) method has been tried and tested to be proven the best method possible for our second step. There are other credited methods like the left sock -> left shoe -> right sock -> right shoe and some underground rogue ones like left sock-> right shoe ->right sock -> left shoe which don’t really make sense and are equivalent to the use of your reserves of plastic bags instead of shoes or socks even. So, sticking to the proper method would be best for your feet and your social image.

After completing the step mentioned above one might think that they have successfully put on shoes with laces but in fact, we still haven’t completed the last and arguably the most important step of securing the shoes in their position. You could say that this is an obvious step, but you would be wrong and you probably have never been on the campus of an art school. Before proceeding to secure the shoes by tying the laces you will need to pull on them (the laces) slightly to tighten the fitting of the shoe. Notice how the stitching is actually individual dots that actually look like a line when you’re looking at your shoes standing up as compared to the position your currently in. Now that we have the laces tightened, we can move to the last bit of the final step, hold the laces of your left shoes in each hand (left lace left hand, right lace right hand) and make a simple knot and tighten it slightly, this is followed by making two loops in the middle of each of the ends of the lace you are holding after knot and making another knot. You will want to use the same procedure for your right shoe.

Congratulations! You have now successfully put on shoes with laces correctly and are now ready to face the tasks ahead of you or simply have a good time. More often than not, the laces come undone even after following all of the steps correctly, this could be due to two reasons: not tying them tight enough or cheap laces. Either way if you find yourself in a situation where your laces are undone you do not need to worry about starting the process all over again. You can simply do the third step again and go on championing your labors!
