MacBook Pro 2023 review

As a successor to the M1 chip, the highly anticipated 2023 MacBook Pro features the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, which ensure top-of-the-line performance capable of handling state-of-the-art software, which would otherwise take a toll on previous processors. Apple has once again proven why they are pioneers in the tech industry by assessing the design flaws of the 2022 model and bringing back what was working, while at the same time leaping miles ahead in terms of performance through this latest tech. Apple is proving that sometimes taking a step back is necessary to see the bigger picture.

The M2 Pro and M2 Max chips feature a 16-core neural engine, storage expandable up to 8TB, and unified memory expandable up to 32GB and 96GB respectively. The M1 Max clocks out at 64GB unified memory keeping up with the M2s in terms of storage. The new MacBook Pro also features a 10 or 12-core CPU alongside GPU upgradable up to 19-core for the M2 Pro and up to 38-core for the M2 Max.

This groundbreaking update in tech has greatly boosted the performance speeds of both chips while at the same time looking back at previous (and better) designs for the computers. The 2023 MacBook Pro models have omitted the touch bar which was frankly a distraction (at best) and reverted to the much more functional keyboard layout of the 2021 model. This design change has greatly boosted productivity by ensuring that the keyboard adds to the efficiency of the computer.

The new models have also taken a step forward in terms of hardware by re-adding an HDMI port and an SD card slot. These changes eliminate the need to carry annoying dongles to connect external accessories, making the 2023 models much more accessible. The bad news being Apple also changed the default charging chord from USB Type-C to the clunky, magnetic MagSafe 3. However, the significant improvement in tech has ensured that 2023 models can still be charged using a Type-C charging chord.

With exceptional performance, efficiency, and thought-out re-addition of certain features, the 2023 MacBook Pro is a formidable contender in the high-performance computer market. The choice between the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips makes the model a viable option for creatives who seek exceptional UI, as well as professionals who seek unrivaled performance. Due to its groundbreaking capabilities and airtight design, this model sets a new standard for laptops, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in portable computing.
